Ergül Cengiz, bis ich Dich finde
10.04.2008 - 12.06.2008

Ergül Cengiz’s paintings frequently focus on large crowds of people and confused masses of dogs, rats, birds and other animals. Arranged in rows with no sense of spatial depth, the individual elements become anonymous components in an overall ornamental pattern that unites figuration and abstraction in a harmonious whole. By combining figurative imagery and ornament in this way, Cengiz’s work occupies a position in between the artistic traditions of the West and those of the Islamic world.
